History: Gilmer County was served by bookmobile service until 1979, when Gilmer became the last county in the state to receive a public library. The Gilmer County Public Library opened its doors in April 1979 with a single carousel structure. A second carousel was added 10 years later, and the library now serves over 7,000 residents in Gilmer County.
